Nanyang Technological University, Singapore emerged victorious in the recent Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2018 which saw a participation of over 120 teams from 18 countries.

NTU's Team  ̶  Nanyang Venture 8 (NV8), comprising students from various engineering schools, clinched the championship in the UrbanConcept – Hydrogen category with their 3D-printed car, with a best attempt score of 46km/m3

For the past three years, the NV8 car was always powered by lithium ion battery pack, but the team wanted to try something new and challenging this year and their decision to convert the car's energy source to hydrogen paid off.

Richmond Ten, team leader of NV8 said, "At NTU, we believe in experiential learning and learning beyond the confines of a classroom. We also believe that there will be an increased demand for renewable and clean technologies in future. Hence, we took the leap of faith by embarking on the journey to use hydrogen fuel cell to power the car. Participating in this project has provided us with the opportunities to learn about the hydrogen fuel cell technology at both practical and implementation levels, and not just theories from textbooks. Our next goal is to develop autonomous vehicles to compete in future Shell Eco-marathon competitions."

Another entrant from NTU, Nanyang Venture X (NV10) also debuted for the first time at the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2018. The 10th vehicle in the Nanyang Venture Series of innovative vehicles, NV10 is a futuristic, light weight, energy efficient, battery-electric vehicle. NV10 features a clear canopy that gives the driver unparalleled visibility from inside the vehicle.

Well done, Teams NV8 and NV10!
